Office Hours Episode 105

Talking genetics, breeding, and terpenes with Dewey Cannabis Co. Co-Founder Jordan Zager!

Let’s get our grow on!

On this week’s session, our very special guest Jordan Zager, Co-Founder of Dewey Cannabis Co., dropped by for a lively conversation! From offering a glimpse into the company’s groundbreaking discovery of powdery mildew-resistant strains and the importance of understanding terpene profiles, to the significance of genetic research in shaping the future of cannabis cultivation, and much more, this episode was truly eye-opening!

Check out these words of wisdom:

Seeds of Inspiration

“As a user, I was sort of getting fed up with a lot of the…the bro science that was on Grass City and Roll It Up forums of what terpenes are and how they might interact with the body. I am a staunch believer in the Entourage Effect. So, as a scientist and a cannabis consumer I was very drawn into how is cannabis making these unique compounds that sort of differentiate strains from one another? And how can we turn our knowledge of terpenes into something that can benefit the cannabis industry?” – Jordan Zager, Dewey Cannabis Co.

The Key to Repeatable Quality

“If you don't know the parameters of what is that higher end of substrate EC this plant can take…what can you expect on drybacks, you're not going to end up with that same end-use quality. I mean, you change the light spectrum slightly, and all of a sudden you have a dramatically different terpene profile.” – Jordan Zager, Dewey Cannabis Co.

Looking to Boost THC%?

“Potency comes down to genetics, first and foremost. There are some other tricks….maybe you just want to dry that flower a little bit more. And generally, not even just in pharma but in the nutraceutical world, most of these compounds are plant-derived products before they go to a testing lab. They're what's called lyophilized, or freeze-dried. So you're in essence freezing everything, removing every bit of water that might be adding that weight. So the less background weight, the higher the percentage of THC is going to be in there.” – Jordan Zager, Dewey Cannabis Co.
