Ask Your Grow: How AROYA’s Connection to Claude and ChatGPT Works

Ask Your Grow: How AROYA’s Connection to Claude and ChatGPT Works

Every cultivation team has someone whose morning starts in the graphs, working out what changed overnight, making notes and passing the important parts along. Connecting AROYA to Claude or ChatGPT hands that first read to an assistant, so the grower gets to the decision faster.

"It helps me find problems in a much more efficient way," said Cory, Director of Cultivation Operations at Harbor House Collective. "Rather than me having to go back and look at the graph daily through the whole cycle and then make my own notes, it did it all for me. So it saved a lot of time."

It changes who can reach the data, too. Matt, Cultivation Systems Project Manager at Root & Bloom, is no longer the only person on his team who can pull an answer out of AROYA. "They can just ask it the way they want, follow it up, and then I'm there when something breaks or doesn't make sense," he said. "It just keeps the progress train going so much more when I don't have to hold data constantly."

How it works – the big picture

There are three parts:

  1. AROYA holds your data.
  2. The connector fetches what a question needs.
  3. Your assistant (Claude or ChatGPT) reads what comes back and writes the answer.

The connector is the only new piece, and we’ve kept it simple on purpose. It doesn't interpret and it doesn't decide. It retrieves. Here's how each part works.

What it can read

The connector reaches what you work with every day in AROYA: substrate and climate readings, irrigation events and schedules, rooms, zones and harvest groups, target ranges, alerts, journal entries, tasks, harvest records, and device and gateway status. It doesn't reach photos attached to scouting notes, tasks or SOPs.

It's read-only by design. There's no path for it to change a schedule, create a task, adjust a setpoint or edit a note. It can look. It can't touch.

How access is set up

Nothing turns on by itself. The feature is enabled facility by facility when you ask your account manager or AROYA Support, and your facility admin then chooses which roles can use it, under Settings > Staff > Manage role.

Each person connects their own assistant and signs in with their AROYA email through a secure OAuth sign-in. Your AROYA password is never shared with the assistant, and access can be revoked at any time, from the assistant's connector settings or by your AROYA admin.

Questions are checked facility by facility and never cross from one into another.

What happens when you ask

When you ask a question, your assistant calls the connector, and the connector pulls only the data that question needs, near-live, at that moment. AROYA doesn't bulk-export your data to Anthropic or OpenAI.

What the assistant keeps afterward depends on your plan and settings with that provider. Team and Enterprise plans typically exclude your conversations from model training, so check yours if that matters to your operation.

The connector also treats everything written in your account as information, not instructions. A journal entry, a room name or a task note gets read like any other data. Nothing typed into AROYA can redirect what the assistant does.

Why the numbers match, and when to double-check

The connector reads the same database the app does, so there's no separate copy to drift out of sync. If a number looks off, it's almost always chart smoothing in the app or a different time window. Ask the assistant to show the readings it used, and the difference usually resolves.

Where it can go wrong is interpretation. The assistant can misread a question, pick the wrong room or reach a conclusion the data doesn't support. That's why every conversation carries the reminder "AROYA can make mistakes. Please double-check responses," and why the app remains the source of truth.

In Mike's experience, it holds up. "It seems pretty accurate," said the cultivation site director.

It also answers only when asked. It doesn't watch your rooms between questions, so keep your AROYA alerts on.

It reads, you decide

The connector gets you to the evidence faster. What you do with it is still your call.

"A connector is a tool, not a cure," said Philip Malmquist, director of AROYA. "If you plug it in and change nothing about how you run the room, nothing changes."

To get started, ask your account manager or AROYA Support to turn it on for your facility, then connect using the steps at aroya.io/artificial-intelligence.
