Office Hours Episode 88

Coming in HOT for 2024!

Data-driven cultivation content for all the Growmies!

After a brief holiday hiatus, the whole team came back together to drop an episode packed with compelling cultivation conversation! Covering everything from how to get started with crop registration to steering plants toward more purple coloring, and so much more, Jason and Seth kicked things into gear in the new year by delivering all kinds of practical info.

Here’s a selection of our favorite quotes from the first show of 2024:

Crop Registration 101

“Typical crop registration is going to be some of the easiest stuff to capture. We're looking at things like plant height, runoff, measurements for volume, EC, PH. Start capturing the ones that you're used to doing, the ones that are very physically evident. Obviously some of the morphology numbers in there as well – those are very important, especially early in the flower cycle. And then if you do have a SOLUS obviously, one would be capturing that before irrigation, shortly after your last irrigation, and then probably, maybe even before lights off”.

Use Salts to Grow Zaza?

“Anytime we're dealing with a potted plant, it's really difficult to get enough nutrition inside of a…practical size media to actually provide the plant with everything it needs through the whole growth cycle. That's why using hydroponic solutions or salt-based fertilizers is so easy. If you're not going that route, there's a lot more planning, and it's a lot more difficult to ensure consistent results.”

The Path To More Purple

“It's the anthocyanin that's responsible for the coloring in there…it's also responsible for the coloring of things like blueberries and huckleberries and other plants that have purpling in color. So that's one of the chemicals that's causing that expression in the plant. As far as how to increase the amount of anthocyanin for more purpling in plants, typically, we look at the cooler temperatures, specifically at night. Even dropping them in the day can produce more anthocyanin.”
