Office Hours Episode 78

Soaking substrates, irrigation strategy matters, & More!

Cultivating conversation with the community every Thursday!

This week, Jason and Seth kicked things off with an overview of how soaking substrates properly from the start sets plants (and you!) up for success. The convo flowed from there with the guys covering the importance of exploring preventative measures over constant troubleshooting, how dialing in irrigation can lead to greater profitability, and so much more!

Get into these quotes, then get into the episode:

Dial It In

“Unless you're growing just right outside in the straight full sun…on the bank of a river where your roots can go touch wet water, there is an opportunity for something to go wrong, right, no matter how simple your system is. So minimizing the points of failure is a huge key to long-term success.” – Seth

Don’t Let Troubleshooting Impact ROI

“If we're consistently troubleshooting dripper issues or any of those other problems that can happen…one, that's labor, and then two, it's loss of production. So a lot of times if we stay proactive with that, we can actually, one, easily pay for to replace this type of consumables and then two, be more profitable because we're actually not having any loss of production and what we've made up for is greater than the cost of replacing it preventatively.”

– Jason

Saturating Substrates? Practice Patience.

“If you're not patient, you're not going to get enough saturation, you're not going to get good hydration, you won't have the water holding capacity for the rest of your run. That's why this step is so key.” – Seth
