Office Hours Episode 110

Ripening with EC spikes, large-bud botrytis, single pruning SOPs, & much more!

Dropping plant science every Thursday!

Jason hosted solo and covered lots of ground during this week’s science-heavy session! From the benefits of spiking EC during ripening to dimming LEDs to variable frequency drive systems, and so much more, the growmies really came through with the conversations – and we love it!

Check out these highlights and be sure to nominate Office Hours for the Emjays’ Best Content Creator of the Year award before the August 18 deadline!

Tips for One Prune Per Run

“If you can optimize your plant spacing, there's a good chance that you can start getting away with only that single pruning, deleafing application through flower. …Ideally it's nice to have, have some amount of lollipop on there. We are pulling the lower fan leaves off. And it is going to be strain-dependent….As far as lighting intensity would be, probably the most important one here in planting density. So just get an idea of how thick your canopy is.” – Jason

Under-canopy Considerations

“Advantages of some of the under-canopy lighting is I see improved a-b buds, especially when we don't necessarily have the ability to do as much defoliation as we want. So there is some investment and it's one of those things where you have to make that opportunity cost evaluation: is the cost of under canopy lighting right now going to be a big enough improvement for your operation to justify the costs? And in many of the facilities that I've been into, the answer is yes.” – Jason

Keeping Greenhouse VPD Dialed-In

“Where is your greenhouse? How much control equipment do you have in your greenhouse? So do you have gable vents? How many fans? What's the ability to adjust those fans? There's a lot of stuff here that's going to go into how to accurately attribute the programming for a greenhouse to stay as steady as possible….Make smaller changes rather than bigger changes fast, and that's going to help you combat any environmental stuff that's going outside of the room.” – Jason
